[ARCHIVED] Your Lewis & Clark Library is Raising the Roof!

Your Lewis & Clark Library is Raising the Roof!
September 24, 2015 (Helena, MT)—The Library will be getting a new roof, but patrons will not notice a disruption in their library services. Lewis & Clark Library Director, Judy Hart, announced that the Lewis & Clark Library Board of Trustees had awarded Summit Roofing of Missoula, Montana the contract to replace the Library’s aging roof.
While the Library underwent an extensive remodel in 2003/04, the roof was not replaced during that project. The two-level flat roof was last replaced in the 1990s and Hart explains that “the Board is very aware of the importance of upkeep and maintenance on this building so as to not allow our facility to fall into disrepair.” The Library has been saving for the project and the Board approved the expenditure for the 2016 fiscal year which began on July 1st of this year.
Work is anticipated to begin October 5th, and, weather permitting, will take roughly a month to six weeks to complete. “The contractors will begin work as soon as the necessary paperwork is completed and we receive the city permits,” explained Hart.
The Library will utilize social media as well as their website to keep the public informed of any unexpected disruptions to library services. “We will post updates and any closures or notice of venue changes on our Facebook page as well as on our website,” noted Hart. The Library’s Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/LewisandClarkLibraryHelena or visit their webpage at www.lclibrary.org.
“We will work very diligently to minimize the disruption to patrons. At this time we do not plan to be closed or experience any disruption in October programing and events,” explained Hart. The Library will kick off its 9th Big Read Under The Big Sky event on October 1st and has over 50 events planned for the 31 days of October.
In conjunction with the re-roofing project, the Sleeping Giant Citizens Council is partnering with the Helena Vigilante Runners and other groups for an October 11th Helena Sun Run to raise money to install solar panels on the Library’s roof. The Helena Sun Run will feature a three mile run; a one mile walk and bike parade; as well as a local sustainability expo.
Registration for the race is online at: runsignup.com/Race/MT/Helena/HelenaRunfortheSun
