Author Gwen Florio Reading and Book Signing of Dakota
April 29, 2014 (Helena, MT)—Your Lewis & Clark Library is pleased to welcome back author Gwen Florio for a reading and book signing of Dakota on Thursday, May 8, 7 PM, in the Large Meeting Room.
Dakota shows the underside of a boom-and-bust economy; of the effect on a small town when big-city money washes in, accompanied by hordes of men far from their families; of what happens when the old rules no longer apply, but the new ones are yet to be determined.
Veteran journalist Gwen Florio has covered stories ranging from the mass shooting at Columbine High School and the trials of Oklahoma City bombers; to the glitz of the Miss America pageant and the more practical Miss Navajo contest, whose participants slaughter a sheep. She's reported from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia, among other countries, as well as Lost Springs, Wyoming (population three).
Florio's work has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Denver Post and the Missoulian, and her short fiction was nominated for the Pushcart Prize. She lives in Missoula, Montana. Dakota is her second book in the Lola Wicks series, Montana preceding.
