Your Lewis & Clark Library Offering A Free ACT Study Group

January 8, 2018 (Helena, MT)—Taking the ACT Exam is mandatory, being afraid or nervous about it is not! To help combat the fear of the unknown and to help Helena area teens prepare for the ACT Exam, Your Lewis & Clark Library is pleased to announce the addition of a free ACT Study Group during February and March.

The ACT Study Group “is a great way to prepare for this daunting standardized test with some tried-and-true "butt-in-chair" time at Lewis & Clark Library,” explains Teen Services Librarian Heather Dickerson. Each week, beginning February 14 through March 7, the group will cover a different section of the ACT from 4-5 pm, plus go over tips and tricks for reducing your anxiety and stress on test day.

In addition to going over study techniques and stress buster tips, the ACT Study Group will also take a full practice test on March 14 from 4-8 pm, complete with a break for pizza. Finally, on March 16, come eat snacks, hang out, relax, and wipe away any last minute jitters. The ACT Study Group is for students in high school who wish to get a jump on this standardized test.

Dickerson explains that the study group “will use library resources, free online tools, and access the official Peterson’s ACT Prep Guide using Lewis & Clark Library’s Education and Test Prep database.” The study group will discuss test strategies, complete sample questions, and experience a full practice test. Dickerson explains that “this is a unique and free opportunity for high school students to gear up for the ACT in a supportive environment.”

Participants should bring writing materials, a calculator, and/or a laptop computer.  The Library will have a small number of computers for participants to use, but Dickerson encourages participants to bring their own laptops if possible.

The ACT Study Group will meet: Wednesday February 14, 21, 28, March 7 from 4-5PM in the Large Meeting Room for section practice and review. The group will also meet Wednesday, March 14 from 4-8PM for a FULL practice ACT. Pizza break provided! Large Meeting Room. Final study session on Friday, March 16 from 3- 6PM in the Large Meeting Room

Please call the Information Desk at Lewis & Clark Library to register: 447-1690 or email Heather, Teen Services Librarian at This helps ensure we have the proper number of materials for each participant. Be prepared to share your name, school, and a good phone number to receive reminder text messages.
