Teen Events in April
ACE the ACT: ACT Study Group: April 5, 12 from 4-5 pm in the Large Meeting Room
ACT STUDY GROUP at Lewis & Clark Library The ACT study group is for students in high school who wish to get a jump on this standardized test. We’ll meet on four consecutive Wednesdays in March and April, with two optional study sessions in the weeks prior to the ACT test’s administration for juniors in the Helena School District on April 19. This study group is free for teen participants. We will use library resources, free online tools, and access the official Peterson’s ACT Prep Guide using Lewis & Clark Library’s Education and Test Prep database. Participants should bring writing materials, a calculator, and/or a laptop computer. (We will have a small number of computers for participants to use). We’ll discuss test strategies, complete sample questions, and experience a full practice test! This is a unique and free opportunity for high school students to gear up for the ACT in a supportive environment. Please register by calling 447-1690 or visiting the Information Desk.
POETRY ON FIRE! April 27, 7 pm, Large meeting room
Poets in grades 6-12 are invited to bring three original poems less than three minutes in length and compete in this supportive competition. Poets should arrive and register between 6:30 and 6:50; event starts at 7 pm. Don't want to perform your poetry? Be a judge! Judges are selected from the audience. Books & Babies
For babies, toddlers, & their grownups. Join us for songs, rhymes, finger plays, stories, and play time! We will focus on the five early literacy practices:
Play, Sing, Read, Talk & Write. Large Meeting Room.

Preschool Story Time
Geared for preschool age, this 30 minute program will emphasize early literacy skills for caregivers and their children. We will focus on the five early literacy practices: Play, Sing, Read, Talk & Write. Come and join the early literacy fun!

LEGO Club for Grades K-5
Monday, April 10, 3-4 pm in the Large Meeting Room.
For kids, grades K-5. Create a cool creature, a robot, your dream house, or anything you imagine out of the library’s collection of LEGOs! Build on your own, or build together. Drop-in event.
Minecraft Club for kids in Grades 2-5
Saturday, April 22, 3-4 pm. In the Computer Lab.
Build with your friends and show off your skills! Registration Required.
Read, Scribble, Draw and Snack
Monday, April 24, 3-4 pm in the Large Meeting Room.
For grades K-5. The name of this event says it all. A casual opportunity to read and talk books, get crafty, color and draw, and enjoy snacks. Bring a book or browse the books on hand. Craft supplies and snacks provided.
Story Time Yoga for Preschoolers
Friday, April 28, 10:30 am in the Large Meeting Room
Geared for preschool age, this 30 minute program will offer safe, simple and fun yoga poses through stories. Yoga enhances children’s ability to concentrate and it works out those wiggles! This is a parent and child event. Please bring a large bath towel or yoga mat with you and wear comfortable clothes. Registration Required.

Celebrate National Card and Letter Writing Month!
Start Sunday, April 2 from 1-3 PM
Large Meeting Room at the Lewis & Clark Library
Come to the Library and take part in an old-time tradition that’s full of charm and meaning. A letter or card sent through the mail provides a special and personal way to connect with others, and is a tangible testament to how much the recipient means to you. At the Library you’ll receive a Correspondence Kit with cards, stamps and miscellaneous accoutrements for personalizing your cards.
We’ll finish on Sunday, April 30 from 1-3 PM and share the cards and letters received! Light refreshments will be provided. Call 447-1690 to sign up.
Queen City Writers Round Table
Thursday, April 6 from 7-8 PM in the Small Meeting Room at the Lewis & Clark Library
Open to the public. This writing “round table” will explore different aspects of writing and then provide you time to practice what you’ve learned with a writing exercise during the hour. Sharing is welcome but not mandatory. This is not a critique group. In April we’ll explore World Building-in “real life” or imaginary.
Lewis & Clark Library Ukulele Jam Sessions with the Helena Ukulele Club
Monday, April 24 from 6-8 PM in the Large Meeting Room at the Lewis & Clark Library
Everyone 12 years in age or older is welcome to participate in this FREE program. Music is provided, however, ukuleles are not. So beg, borrow, or purchase one before the program. We hope to see you then!
