Children’s Activities @ Your Library in April
March 30, 2016 (Helena, MT)—During April, libraries in schools, campuses, and communities nationwide celebrate the dynamic changes that happen in today’s libraries. April 10-16 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians, and library workers.
During April, Your Lewis & Clark Library is hosting many activities, programs, and events for children. Children’s Librarian Marissa Bazan explains that “from Books & Babies and Story Time to special events, there’s something for every age at the Library this month!”
Books & Babies meets every Monday at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM and again on Tuesday’s at 10:30 AM. This early childhood literacy program is designed for little ones, birth through 2 1/2 years old, and their caregivers. Participants sing songs, action rhymes, finger plays, and enjoy stories.
Story Time meets every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 AM on the Story Steps. Designed for preschool age children, this 30 minute program emphasizes early literacy skills and reading techniques.
The Week of the Young Child coincides with National Library Week, April 10th-16th. “We are pleased to partner with Childcare Partnerships again this year to hand out free books and early literacy resources during Story Times,” explained Bazan. In addition to the Week of the Young Child, there will be special activities planned to celebrate National Library Week!
On Monday, April 11th, kids in grades K-5 are invited to attend Lego Club from 3-4:30 PM in the Large Meeting Room. Your imagination is the limit as we bring out our collection of LEGO bricks for an open build! Children under age 8 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. No registration required.
On Wednesday, April 13th we will host a special Book to Boogie Preschool Story Time at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM in the Large Meeting Room. Come get loud in the Library and enjoy this interactive early literacy program.
Families are invited to attend a special Family Story and Craft Time on Saturday, April 16th at 10:30 AM on the Story Steps. Stories and a special craft will help connect kids and families in an early literacy activity. Later that day, kids in grades 3-5 are invited to attend Minecraft time in the computer lab from 3-4 PM. Registration is required as there is a limit of 10 kids.
Tweens, plan on attending the Tween Book Jam for kids in grades 3-5 on Monday, April 18th from 3-4 PM in the Large Meeting Room. Bring a favorite book (personal copy or a library book) and talk about it with other kids your age. Snacks provided.
Wrap up the month with a celebration of Diversity in Action on Monday, April 25th. DIA is an opportunity for pre-teens in grades 3-5 to explore STEAM activities and literacy programs at their Library. There is a 20 person limit so registration is required for this free event on April 25th from 3-4 PM in the Large Meeting Room.
