Raising the Roof and Making a Little Mess!
October 1, 2015 (Helena, MT)—On Monday, October 5th, contractors will begin removing the Library’s current roof in order to begin putting down the new roof, a process that will take up to 6weeks. Due to the nature of the work involved, it will be necessary for contractors to use the Library’s parking lot to stage their equipment and provide a work space during the project.
“Removing a roof is a messy process and the contractors need a place to safely work from while completing the project,” explained Lewis & Clark Library Director Judy Hart. In order for the contractors to get their equipment into the work zone and loaded safely with the debris being removed from the roof, it is necessary to cordon off a section of the Library’s main parking lot to provide a safe work zone. Hart goes on to state that “our number one goal is keeping everyone, contractors and patrons, safe during this process.”
Beginning on or around October 4th, contractors will fence off a section of the Library’s parking lot, restricting access at the main entrance. Patrons can access the remainder of the Library’s parking lot from the Wong Street entry off of Park Avenue or via Broadway.
Library officials have worked closely with City officials, Police, Fire, and Parking officials to make sure that the project has the least amount of disruption to patrons as possible. “Everyone has been great to work with and we anticipate that the disruptions will be minimal,” explained Hart.
The Helena Parking Commission has agreed to provide free, two hour parking, for Library patrons on the west side of Park Avenue across from the Library. “We ask for everyone’s patience during this process, but it is imperative that we complete this necessary upkeep on our building to ensure that it is safe and sound for all of our patrons for years to come,” stated Hart.
The Lewis & Clark Library Board of Trustees approved the re-roofing project in order to ensure the future of the facility. “The roof hasn’t been replaced since the early-1990s and it is time to perform basic maintenance and upkeep on a building that is aging,” explained Hart. “The Board is planning ahead and looking to the long-term use of this building and this is a very fiscally responsible move for them to take in guaranteeing the structural integrity of our fabulous facility.”
The Library will utilize social media as well as the agency’s website to keep the public informed of any unexpected disruptions to library services. “We will post updates and any closures or notice of venue changes on our Facebook page as well as on our website,” noted Hart. The Library’s Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/LewisandClarkLibraryHelena or visit their webpage at www.lclibrary.org.
