Learn More about Corvids at the Library
January 8, 2019 (Helena, MT)—Did you know that due to a long standing superstition, there are six captive ravens protecting the Tower of London? Known as the “Ravens of the Tower of London,” the birds are cared for by a Ravenmaster who ensures the birds captivity in order to protect the Crown, and ultimately all of Britain, from falling.
While often associated with death, crows have earned a bad reputation in American culture but did you know that crows are highly intelligent and adaptable? In fact, they are very social birds that live in pairs or in small families.
Ravens, along with crows, jays, and magpies makeup the cosmopolitan family of oscine passerine birds known as corvids. This diverse group of birds has a history as varied as the birds that make up the genus. Want to learn more? Join David Slaughter, a volunteer at MT WILD, for a free and informative presentation on corvids on Saturday, January 12th at 11AM at the Lewis & Clark Library.
