National Bookmobile Day @ Your Lewis & Clark Library Bookmobile

April 3, 2017 (Helena, MT)—Wednesday, April 12 is National Bookmobile Day, a celebration of the more than 930 bookmobiles and dedicated bookmobile staff that provide vital library services to their communities.   The occasion is an opportunity for Americans to express their support for these important mobile institutions. For over 100 years, bookmobiles have delivered information, technology, and resources for life-long learning to Americans of all walks of life.

In accordance with the Lewis & Clark Library’s mission “to provide the best possible services and materials for informational, educational, cultural or recreational use by the community,” the Library introduced its fourth branch library in the fall of 2012 with the introduction of the Bookmobile. The Bookmobile travels the county providing essential library services to members of our community who would otherwise not have access to the Library.

“Libraries are the heart of every community and our library helps our community thrive. As a vital part of our library, bookmobiles bring these valuable resources to our patrons” explains Lewis & Clark Library Director, John Finn.

For nearly five years, the Bookmobile has been bringing library services to all areas of Lewis and Clark County to better serve patrons. “Visiting the Bookmobile is like stepping into any of the library buildings, complete with programming, books, DVDs, puppets, laptop internet stations, an AWE kid's station, and Public Services desk,” explains Bookmobile Librarian, Bretagne Byrd. The Bookmobile is a year-round mobile library and designed for all ages. If you haven’t visited the Bookmobile yet, National Bookmobile Day is the day to do so.

To celebrate, the Bookmobile staff has planned special celebrations all day long. On April 12th you will find the Bookmobile at: Skelton Park from 10-10:45AM; Treehouse Preschool from 11-11:45AM; Son Heaven at 1PM; Hunters Pointe from 2-3PM; and at Bryant Elementary for the YMCA After School Care from 4-5PM.

Part of National Library Week, National Bookmobile Day is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA), the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS), the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL).
