Kickoff Party

Anchor Park
Join us for the kickoff of this year’s Big Read kickoff at Anchor Park.
This free event features live music from the Cottonwood Club, free copies of the book, and a scoop of a special ice cream flavor from Big Dipper. There will food  from local food trucks and beverages from Blackfoot Brewing available for purchase.

Winter Clothing Drive

October 1 - November 2 
Bring new or gently used coats and other warm clothing for all ages to the library. Items will be distributed to those in need in the community. In conjunction with Good Samaritan Ministries.

Trivia at Millers

Screening of "The Wobblies"

This compelling documentary tells the story of workers in factories, sawmills, wheat fields, forests, mines and on the docks as they organize and demand better wages, healthcare, overtime pay and safer working conditions. 

Soapbox Community Conversations

Brother's Tapworks
Montana Free Press journalist Mara Silvers and Dennis Swibold, who recently retired as a professor at the University of Montana School of Journalism, as they discuss the evolution of the free press. Hosted by Brothers Tapworks, and facilitated by Steve Bullock.

Big Read Postcard Printing Craft

As seen in The Cold Millions, printing presses were a vital part of getting IWW information out to the public. Come to your Lewis & Clark Library for an afternoon of postcard "printing"! Learn about different printing processes and "stamp" print your own postcard, the library will even mail them for you.

Ghost Lights & Vaudeville!

Ethereal Miss Emily shares tantalizing tidbits of early Vaudeville history in America followed by a rollicking entertainment of comedy, dance and song featuring lively Helena talent! Produced by the Montana Playwrights Network, the variety show is free, and family friendly. Voices of the Big Read

November 1, 6 pm reception, readings begin at 7 pm
Helena Avenue Theatre, 1319 Helena Ave.
Big Read writing workshop attendees are invited to share from their writings at this open mic night. The public is welcome to join the audience.
