Explore woke literature with Lewis & Clark Library!
During April, we invite you to read a title from a community created list of woke
literature (or choose your own) and submit a brief response. You’ll earn a book to keep and be entered into a drawing for a “Read Woke” t-shirt. Submit your responses at Lewis & Clark Library in Helena between April 1 and 30.
A Woke Book Must:
Challenge a social norm ? Give voice to the voiceless ? Provide information about a group that has been disenfranchised ? Seek to challenge the status quo ? Include a protagonist from an underrepresented or oppressed group
· Cicely Lewis, Creator of the “Read Woke” movement
Examples of "Woke" literature:
*All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely
*Dear Martin by Nic Stone
*Girl Mans Up by M-E Girard
*The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
*I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika L. Sánchez
