Lewis & Clark Library Bookmobile Announces Bookmobile Themed Writing Contest

Lewis & Clark Library Bookmobile Announces Bookmobile Themed Writing Contest

January 28, 2019 (Helena, MT)—What’s your favorite Bookmobile experience? Share your story and you could win a prize during the Bookmobile Writing Contest. The Bookmobile is an important part of the community and Library staff would like to gather stories about how the Bookmobile impacts patron’s lives, “we want to hear from patrons about their experiences at the Bookmobile and to encourage writing as a literacy skill for all ages,” explains Bookmobile Librarian Bretagne Byrd.

The writing contest is intended for anyone that uses the Bookmobile so that they can share their stories, memories, and experiences about why the Bookmobile is important to them. Byrd explains that “the bookmobile staff get the opportunity to develop close library relationships with patrons, provide much needed access to literacy and technology materials, and to strengthen our community with a mobile library. The bookmobile is for the entire community and we would like to showcase what the bookmobile brings and does for everyone!”

Submissions should be no less than 50 words with a maximum limit of a 1000 words. Drawings should accompany shorter essays. All submissions must address one of the following prompts:

1. Write a story all of your own about the Lewis & Clark Library Bookmobile.

OR

2. Write about your favorite experience with the Lewis & Clark Library Bookmobile.

OR

3. Write a description of an imaginary bookmobile stop for the Lewis & Clark Library Bookmobile.

Beginning February 1st, writing prompt exercise kits will be available at all Bookmobile stops. The kit includes the writing prompts and creative writing tips to help you get started in the process. “You don’t have to use the kit to enter the contest, we just wanted to provide a guide to those new to writing or intimidated by the process,” explains Byrd.  Submissions will be accepted February 1st thru April 5th. All entries must be given to Bookmobile staff at any of the Bookmobile stops.

All submissions will be put on display for National Bookmobile Day on Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The Bookmobile staff will select three entries to receive Kindle Fires.
